grad school, politics, knitting and other meanderings. And not enough time for any of it.

a new toilet today

wow what exciting news! our landlord called last night and asked us if it would be okay if they installed a new toilet in our place today, and while they are at it, they are ripping up our bathroom floor to see why it is becoming increasingly soft and squishy. should be a fun day... another fun part of my day- i have a meeting with an IT guy who took 4 months to reply to an email. he seems to be the only person on campus that works with databases, so hopefully the meeting will go well. I also have to complain more about how un-fun my summer is going to be. I complained some to people I hadn't seen in awhile at Borders yesterday (I have to stop signing up for shifts). I am taking a prelim exam so for that I need to study like 4 or more hours a day. Then, I am also supposed to be reworking/rewriting my masters thesis until my advisor thinks it is decent. I haven't even started this yet- well I've thought a lot about it but that's it. AND I told the person I have a PA with that I would continue working on that project no more than 10 hours a week. Joy. Why do I insist on piling more work on myself under the guise that I get more done when I am busy? So it seems that in the life of a grad student there are no weekends, and there are no summers. Time is just spent trying to get more and more work done, trying to be less and less behind, and trying to live up to higher and higher standards. I finished the front of my tank top last night- that goodness knitting never feels like a waste of time!
