knit me more time...

the telephone

Jo has been on the phone for maybe 15 hours in the past 3 days. And I am really not exaggerating (I do that sometimes but not this time). Right now she is on the phone with Goldie (an hour so far). Before that she was on the phone with Diane (in NY) for 2 hours. This morning it was Linda in NY for 3 hours. Last night it was Mike in NY, and Pammy in NYC... and also Chrissy in NY and Mae in Madison for a while yesterday too. Oh yeah and Virginia this morning too. Jeez- Jo is one popular girl with a lot to talk about! (well, the record deal, going to NY to record etc...) I don't really like talking on the phone. Actually, I would much rather send email. Making conversation on the phone is becoming more difficult for me. The phone irritates me. Cell phones irritate me even more. Exceptions to this are my mother and Jony (and sometimes other members of my family like my aunt who tells me trivial things about my hometown). I used to spend a lot more time on the phone when I was much younger. When I was in HS I talked to my (then) best friend James for like 4 hours a night- after seeing him all day in school. Jony and I also used to talk every day on the phone in Junior High- 4 hours a day was nothing for us. And then we would have sleep overs the same night. I wonder what on earth we could have spent so much time talking about! It always amazed me that my younger sister (8 years younger than me) never really talked on the phone much in High School. Whenever I would be visiting home I would think "shouldn't maryann have a phone attached to her head??". She never got into the cell phone thing until it meant free long distance in college. Instead, Maryann was into Instant Messaging- she is able to chat online with upwards of 10 people at once. I eventually got Instant Messaging and I use it now every day- but only to talk to my mother, brother, sister and sometimes Jony and my dad. Jo is still one the phone. I knit for 2 hours tonight while watching Hardball and other news stuff. I love the news and am totally addicted but I usually sit there knitting and thinking "blah blah blah... men in suits talking to men in suits about men in suits who run the county...". Regardless of the political crap the evening was very relaxing. I made incredible roasted potatoes for dinner with parsley, onions and fennel. And we had snap peas as well. Very yummy food. Jo ate while she talked on the phone.
